Mean-field Based Approaches to Pairing Correlations in Atomic Nuclei

چکیده

The evolution of the pairing correlations from closed shell to midshell nuclei is analyzed in the Sn isotopes with the Finite Range Density Dependent Gogny force. As theoretical approaches we use the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov, the Lipkin-Nogami, their particle number projected counterparts and the full variation after particle number projection method. We find that whereas all approaches succeed rather well in the description of the total energy they differ significantly in the pairing correlation content of the wave functions. The description of the evolution from the weak to the strong pairing regime is also approach dependent, specially at shell closure.

A fermion realization of compact symplectic algebra provides a natural framework for studying pairing correlations of many-body interactions in nuclei. Here, we use quantum deformation concept in order to describe pairing correlations in atomic nuclei. While the nondeformed limit of the theory provides a reasonable and overall description of certain nuclear properties and fine structure effects...

Role of Bcs-type Pairing in Light Deformed Nuclei: a Relativistic Mean Field Approach

The odd-even staggering (OES) of nuclear masses has been recognized since the early days of nuclear physics. It manifests itself in the fact that the binding energy of a system with an odd particle number is lower than the arithmetic mean of the energies of the two neighboring even-particle-number systems. Häkkinen et al. 1, using the density-functional theory, argued that light alkali-metal cl...

Thermal Signatures of Pairing Correlations in Nuclei and Nanoparticles

The Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) mean-field theory of the pairing interaction breaks down for nuclei and ultra-small metallic grains (nanoparticles). Finite-temperature pairing correlations in such finite-size systems can be calculated beyond the BCS theory in an auxiliary-field Monte Carlo approach. We identify thermal signatures of pairing correlations in both nuclei and nanoparticles that...

Pairing Correlations beyond the Mean Field

Self-consistent mean-field models are one of the standard approaches in nuclear structure theory, see Ref.1 for a recent review. For heavy nuclei, they are the only microscopic method that can be systematically applied on a large scale. Over the last few years, we were involved in the development of a method, that adds long-range correlations to self-consistent mean-field by projection after va...

Quartet condensation and isovector pairing correlations in N = Z nuclei

We propose a simple quartet condensationmodel (QCM)which describes with very high accuracy the isovector pairing correlations in self-conjugate nuclei. The quartets have an α-like structure and are formed by collective isovector pairs. The accuracy of the QCM is tested forN = Z nuclei for which exact shell model diagonalizations can be performed. The calculations are done with two isovector pai...
